Spider-Man Shortlist Reportedly Narrowed Down To Three Actors

Sony and Marvel's hunt for a new live-action Spider-Man continues to narrow, as actor Asa Butterfield was reportedly struck from the studios' list.

Butterfield, who was rumored as one of Marvel and Sony's favorite candidates for Peter Pater and his web-swinging alter-ego, is now apparently out of the picture. As The Wrap's Jeff Sneider reported on the latest episode of Meet The Movie Press Live, he's heard only three actors remain in the race. According to Sneider, the three actors still in the running are Tom Holland, Charlie Plummer, and Matthew Lintz.

But it seems that the house is divided on who should get the tights. According to Sneider, Marvel is favoring Plummer while Sony wants Holland. Sony reportedly wants Holland so badly, that they've pushed him ahead as the new frontrunner.

Of course, all of this could change with a spin of the webs. But with Captain America: Civil War—which is the rumored as the new cinematic Spider-Man's first appearance—less than a year away, and Disney's big D23 expo looming in August, an official decision has to come soon.
