Fans hoping to see plenty of smashing in next year's Captain America: Civil War may be disappointed.

While rumors have flown that Mark Ruffalo's Incredible Hulk may be a part of the superhero sparring match due in theaters in May of next year, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige wants to manage fans' expectations in terms of how big a role the Jade Giant might play.

"[Hulk] is not a primary part of Civil War," Feige told io9. "He may not be a part at all."

The Hulk didn't play a major role in the comic book version of Civil War, and at the end of Avengers: Age of Ultron he stole an experimental aircraft and used it to disappear off the grid.

Nevertheless, the groundwork for the Civil War is apparently laid by General Thunderbolt Ross, a character most closely-associated with The Hulk, so after Robert Downey, Jr. reportedly told Ruffalo that he will have a part to play in the story, many fans assumed that part would be important.

Captain America: Civil War is due in theaters on May 6, 2016. Keep up to date on all the comic book movie release dates with our handy-dandy calendar right here.
