Some Upcoming Marvel Studios Films Could Be Set In The Past

With both Captain America: The First Avenger and Marvel's Agent Carter, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has taken some time playing in the sandbox of the world's past.

That's something Marvel Studios isn't averse to revisiting, according to studio head Kevin Feige.

"Certainly we could [set another one in the past]," Feige told io9. "There are no rules. I think the majority of them will be chronological, but not all of them necessarily."

The question came up in regard to upcoming movies like Black Panther, Doctor Strange and Inhumans, all of which have long histories to examine as part of the character's origin. Still, it's entirely possible to reveal generations of backstory in a quick scene -- as Marvel did in last year's Guardians of the Galaxy and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
