Those hoping that Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice was a direct sequel to Man of Steel are out of luck. As Henry Cavill, the actor the behind Warner Bros.' blue tights, recently confirmed, next year's superhero slugfest will wear many hats—though none of them will be Superman's.

"As far as the individual character is concerned, this is not a Superman sequel," Cavill told Entertainment Weekly. "It's more of an introduction to Batman, an opening to Justice League, and an expansion of the world that was created in Man of Steel."

That's a little surprising, considering that Superman heavyweights like Lois Lane, Perry White, and—you'know—Lex Luthor will round out Batman V. Superman's cast. But don't despair too deeply, as Cavill thinks another solo-Superman adventure is somewhere in his future. While a direct Man of Steel sequel wouldn't hit until after 2019's Justice League: Part 2 (barring last-minute changes from Warner Bros.), Cavill is up for playing DC's top icon for as long as possible.

"There's plenty of time for individual Superman sequels," Cavill elaborated. "He's a tough character to tell. People like the darker vigilante. I think it speaks to the human psyche more easily rather than the god-like being that we can't really understand. Once we have a more expansive universe we can delve more into the character of Superman and hopefully tell more stories."

At the very least, it sounds like Cavill is in for the long-haul with DC Comics films. But would you like to see another solo Superman movie? Who would you want him to face? Let us know in the comments below!
