Tony and Emmy Award-winning actress and singer Leslie Uggams announced on her official website that she will be playing Blind AI in 20th Century Fox's Deadpool movie.

Blind Al is a UK intelligence agent and war hero who fought alongside Captain America (who will obviously be left out of her origin in Deadpool) during the war in Europe. Eventually, she becomes a bit of a troublemaker, and Deadpool is hired to take her out. He spares her and kills everyone else at the base where she's stationed instead, thus beginning an unusual kind of friend/mentor/hostage situation.

When a Deadpool casting call was leaked it described Blind AI as: "Worldly, great sense of comedic timing, sarcastic, dry, funny." If Deadpool is a hit, we should expect to see more of Blind AI as the role called for a 3-picture deal.

The 72-year-old actress is best known for her work in Hallelujah, Baby! and playing 'Kizzy Reynolds' in the highly-acclaimed TV mini-series Roots (1977).

Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool hits theaters on Feb. 12, 2016. You can check out every other upcoming Marvel movie on ComicBook.com's Comic Book Movie Release Schedule!
