Lucifer begins with a text intro explaining how Lucifer decided to take a break a from Hell, and try out California for a change.

The scene cuts to Lucifer speeding through the streets of LA in a sports car. He's pulled over by a police officer. Lucifer tries bribing the officer, but the officer refuses. But, using his uncanny powers of persuasion, Lucifer convinces the officer to take the bribe.

Lucifer then arrives to a private club downtown. He meets his friend Maze, who's a bartender at the club. She tells Lucifer to do something more significant than just part during his time on Earth. Lucifer then receives a visitor. It's his demonic brother Amenadiel , saying that he must return to the underworld. Lucifer says that he doesn't want to go back, despite his father's requests back in Hell. Amenadiel asks Lucifer where the damned souls of Earth go when Lucifer is on break. Lucifer balks at the question and casts the demon off.

Lucifer then meets a celebrity singer Delilah outside the club They do to get a drink, where Della admits that she sold her soul to the devil. Lucifer then tells Delila that she needs to "put herself together" and stop wasting her talents and life. Delilah promises Lucifer that she will.

Suddenly, a car drives up and tries assassinating Lucifer and Delilah. Lucifer survives, but Delilah dies. The drive by shooter crashes hi car though, and when Lucifer questions him before he dies, the shooter says he's just the trigger man.

Chloe and Officer Diggs then arrive to the crime scene. With Lucifer as the only witness, Chloe questions Lucifer. Lucifer reveals their brief encounter, explaining how the triggerman killed Delilah for money. Chloe asks Lucifer how he survived the drive-by shooting, and Lucifer simply answers "immortality." Lucifer tells Chloe that she must find the man who ordered the hit on Chloe, and that he must be punished. Chloe leaves when Lucifer after Lucifer makes a pass at him.

The show then cuts to Lucifer crashing a wedding. The groom to be is Delilah's ex music producer, Jim. Lucifer interrogates Jim about his involvement with Deliah's death. Jim tells him to find a man named Tuvile. Lucifer then finds Tuvile at a house party. Lucifer asks Tuvile how he know Delilah, and Tuvile says that he loved her. But, Delilah cheated on him with someone, whose she talked about with with therapist n Beverly Hills. Lucifer is about to chase the lead, but officer Chloe crashes the party. They try working out the next lead, but Tuvile friend recognizes Chloe as a former TV star. Angry, Chloe arrests Lucifer for interrupting her investigation.

Lucifer then tells Chloe that he can really help her with the investigation. He says that he is THE Lucifer, and can persuade people to give into their deepest desires. He tries using his powers on Chloe, but they don't work on her. Chloe asks why Lucifer cares so much about Delilah. Lucifer says its because he feels guilty for her death. Chloe feels a small bit of sympathy (for the devil!) and decides to let Lucifer help for a while.

The two go to find Delilah's therapist, but the mission is sidetracked when Chloe has to pick her daughter up from school. Lucifer waits outside the school while Chloe get her daughter. While waiting, he sees an extremely attractive woman and tries finding her. He then actually bumps into Trixie, Chloe's daughter. With Trixie, Chloe and Lucifer leave the school. But then Officer Diggs shows up. He is Trixie's father, though he separated from Chloe. He takes Trixie back home, so Lucifer and Chloe can continue their investigation.

Lucifer asks Chloe why Officer Diggs is pressuring her to close Delilah's case. Chloe doesn't know. The two then go find Delilah's doctor. They ask the doctor who Delilah she was cheating on the rapper with, but the doctor won't tell. Lucifer starts pressing his powers on the doctor, and gets her to reveal the man: Gray Cooper, an actor who stripped in a movie. With the info, Lucifer and Chloe leave—but not without taking a pass at the doctor.

Lucifer and Chloe then crash Cooper while he's filming his new movie. They question him on his involvement with Delilah, and then Lucifer asks Cooper what his deepest desires are. Cooper admits he wants to president of the United States. They then ask Cooper if he was sleeping with Delilah, and Cooper admits he did. However, Chloe notices that Cooper has the same watch that Delilah's shooter did.

Lucifer and Chloe then go to a bar to review the case. Lucifer asks Chloe what she really desires, and she admits that he really does want to help other. But then Chloe has a revelation about the watch. She realizes that producer Jimmy received a watch from Delilah as a gift , which he used to pay the gunman to kill her.

With the information, the two confront Jimmy. Jimmy admits to killing Delilah because Delilah humiliated him. Scared, Jimmy pulls a gun and takes a hostage. Chloe then shoots Jimmy down, but Jimmy shoots her back. Before Jimmy dies, however, Lucifer extracts his demonic sense of justice on the producer.

Lucifer then takes Chloe to the hospital, saving her life. In her emergency room, the two form a partnership. Chloe isn't especially convinced of Lucifer just yet, but she's open to their unofficial partnering. Lucifer then goes back to his favorite club, where he's confronted by his brother Amenadiel. Amenadiel says he doesn't like Lucifer's new merciful side, and threatens to start a war if Lucifer doesn't change.

Lucifer then goes inside the bar, where Maze also asks why Lucifer why he is being merciful. Unsure, Lucifer decides to seek the Delilah's former therapist for help…but not without a few fringe benefits.
