In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly (embedded in video below), The Walking Dead's Andrew Lincoln has nothing but enthusiasm about the forthcoming season, describing it as "very big," "ambitious" and "brave."

It's not unreasonable to say that "big" and "ambitious" run counter to many fans' expectations, since in the comic book source material, there was a stretch of time where life in the Alexandria Safe-Zone got comparably low-key and character-driven for a while.

"I think that episode one is something that people are not going to expect," Lincoln said. "I certainly didn't when I read it. And when we filmed it, it just grew and grew and it got deeper and deeper. And I think there are a couple of episodes this season that are certainly some of the best episodes I've read, maybe in a couple of seasons."

AMC's top-rated drama The Walking Dead returns in October. Fear the Walking Dead, a new companion series, will debut later this month.
