In what many fans are already calling a death sentence for the veteran series, FX has decided to move Archer to FXX, their "edgier" sister network, to pair it with creator Adam Reed's new animated series, Cassius and Clay.

IGN reports, Cassius and Clay, from Archer's Adam and Community writer Megan Ganz, features Kaitlin Olson (Cassius) and Lake Bell (Clay) as bandits looking to survive in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic American South.

So...think Mad Max: Fury Road meets Smokey and the Bandit.

The voice cast includes Susan Sarandon, Jeffrey Tambor, J.B. Smoove,Kevin Michael Richardson, Stephen Root, Katy Mixon and Robert Patrick. A ten-episode first season will air on FXX in 2016.

Since its high-profile launch with The Simpsons, FXX has failed to generate a native hit yet. FX Networks are likely hoping that Reed can capture lightning in a bottle with Cassius and Clay, especially if they bolster it with Archer. Fans, meanwhile, are already clogging up social media and comment threads to object. FXX is often on a higher cable tier than is FX, and the fear that Cassius and Clay could fail, leaving Reed's signature series stranded on the lesser network, seems to be the dominant topic of conversation around the move.

Of course, this isn't the first time Reed and FX have rolled the dice big on Archer. Two seasons ago, Archer: Vice eschewed the show's spy trappings and reimagined the cast of characters as drug dealers for a season. They've also had to dump ISIS, the spy organization at the center of the series, due to unwanted associations to a real-life terrorist organization bearing a similar name.
