Disney Reviving The Lion King With The Lion Guard TV Movie And Series

Disney Junior has released a video preview of The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar, an animated TV movie sequel to The Lion King. The movie follows Kion, the youngest son of Simba and Nala, as he takes leadership of The Lion Guard, a team of animals tasked with protecting the Pride Lands. The film will air on The Disney Channel in November.

The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar features the voices of The Lion King stars James Earl Jones as Mufasa and Ernie Sabella as Pumbaa. The voice cast also includes Rob Lowe as Simba, Gabrielle Union as Nala, and Max Charles as Kion.

Return of the Roar is a lead-in to The Lion Guard TV series, billed as "The Lion King meets The Avengers." The series will debut on Disney Channel and Disney Junior in early 2016.

A special preview of The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar will be held at the D23 Expo this Sunday, Aug. 16.
