During Disney's D23 Expo today, director J.J. Abrams revealed that the runtime for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is clocking in at 2 hours and 4 minutes. That's the same runtime as the quintessential film in the franchise, Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back. Coincidence? I think not!

Keep in mind, the film is still being edited, so the runtime could dramatically change by the time it is ready to be released in theaters this December.

How's that compare to the original runtimes of the previous Star Wars films?

  • Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace Runtime: 136 min
  • Star Wars II: Attack of the Clones Runtime: 142 min
  • Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith Runtime: 140 min
  • Star Wars IV: A New Hope Runtime: 121 min
  • Star Wars V: The Empire Strikes Back Runtime: 124 min
  • Star Wars VI: Return of the Jedi" Runtime: 134 min

The further adventures of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher).

Star Wars: The Force Awakens arrives in theaters December 18, 2015.
