In a new interview with Uproxx, ousted Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield admitted that he had been "petitioning" Sony to hook up with Marvel "from the start," and that he's excited to see a Spider-Man film with Marvel Studios' stamp on it.

"To be honest [pauses], all the ins and outs of what happened is a more tender conversation that maybe I don't want to talk about in public in a press situation," Garfield followed up. "But all I can say is that I'm stoked to go and watch a Marvel film of Spider-Man."

The actor added that he and screenwriter Alex Kurtzman had already started to meet and discuss some plot points for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 before the plug was pulled on the franchise, admitting that he was excited to play a larger role in breaking story, "But, anyway, it wasn't meant to be. As I say, I'm just really excited that I get to watch."

Garfield will next appear in 99 Houses, a drama about real estate fraud with Man of Steel's Michael Shannon and The Flash's Clancy Brown.

Tom Holland's Spider-Man/Peter Parker will make a cameo in Captain America: Civil War, which will arrive on May 6, 2016. He'll then star in the Jon Watts-directed solo Spider-Man movie to be released on July 28, 2017.
