Recent rumors surrounding Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice suggested that Warner Bros. is looking to focus more on Ben Affleck's Dark Knight than on Henry Cavill's Man of Steel.
Director Zack Snyder confirms that those rumors are true, but only for the most practical storytelling reasons.
"Only in that because it's a different Batman than the Batman that was in the Chris Nolan movies, so we have a little bit more explaining to do—and you just had a whole Superman movie," Snyder tells The Daily Beast. "But I think only in that way, because you need to understand where Batman is with everything. And that's more toward the beginning, but it evens back out as it goes on."
This makes a lot of sense. The DC Extended Universe version of Superman had has origin told in Man of Steel, while we've yet to meet the new Batman. With Christian Bale's Batman from the Dark Knight movies still reasonably fresh in the public's mind, it will be important for the new universe to distinguish its Batman from his predecessor.
