Sebastian Stan On Whether He Or Anthony Mackie Should Become Captain America

At the end of Marvel Comics' Civil War crossover storyline, written by Mark Miller, Steve Rogers is gunned down. His dying wish was for Tony Stark/Iron Man to look after his old friend Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier and to make sure the Captain America mantle continued. Stark then appointed Bucky as the new Star-Spangled Avenger.

Maybe something like that will happen in Captain America: Civil War? Maybe Cap's shield is passed on to Bucky? Romanian-born actor Sebastian Stan was asked about that possibility this past weekend at Salt Lake City Comic Con.

"I'll say this: They sure like to dangle a cheese in front of my nose a lot," Stan told the enthusiastic audience (via sltrib). "They're like 'Oh yeah, that's where you pick up the shield,' and I'm like, 'Yeah, I've heard that one before. There it is again.'"

Stan was then asked if the position became available, would he rather see himself or Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson/Falcon, as the new Captain America? "Myself," Stan remarked with a sly smile. "Having Anthony Mackie become Captain America would be like Biff in Back to the Future II." Hey Stan, that's about as funny as a screen door on a battleship.
