The Flash movie is one step closer to a reality, as it now has a director. Seth Grahame-Smith will direct the DC Comics adaptation for film starring Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, according to a report by THR. He will write the screenplay for the movie, as well.

The movie is off a treatment by The LEGO Movie writer/director pair Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who were also being considered to direct initially - they since have signed on with Lucasfilm to direct what is likely (but still not officially announced) a Han Solo prequel film under the "Star Wars Story" brand.

The Flash will take place in the shared DC movie universe that started with Man of Steel and takes a big leap forward with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which will introduce Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash into that world.

Miller's Flash will then appear in Justice League part 1 in November 2017, before having his own solo film in March 2018

Grahame-Smith hit Hollywood after first writing genre mashing novels like Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Slayer. He's also writing LEGO Batman the movie for Warner Bros, linking him to both the previous writers and the studio.

The film has no direct connections to another adaptation of DC Comics' Scarlet Speedster, The Flash tv series on The CW. That series stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, and takes place in a shared universe of its own with Arrow and the upcoming Legends of Tomorrow.
