Saban Confirms Power Rangers Will Use Names Of Original Characters

Earlier today, Saban Entertainment announced the fifth and final member of the Power Rangers. We now know the team is Becky Gomez as the Yellow Ranger, R.J. Cyler as the Blue Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger and Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger.

Several days ago, a report claimed that the new Power Rangers would not use the names of the original characters -- Trini, Billy, Zack, Jason and Kimberly, but Saban tweeted those very names today. We reached out to Saban and they confirmed to us that those are in fact the names that will be used in the film.

Check out the tweet below.

Dean Israelite (Project Almanac) is directing based on a screenplay written by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz (Fringe).

Power Rangers will begin filming in January 2016 and is scheduled for release on January 13, 2017.

By the time it comes out, they will no longer look like high school students

  1. They start filming in less than 3 months, and the release date is only a year later. How much older do you think they will look in such a short time span?

  2. Typical girl as pink ranger, and man as red ranger....This is 2015, not the old school years.

  3. They are making a Power Rangers movie? uh, yay?? Someone actually greenlighted this?

  4. They're using the original names and original roles, but without the original somewhat racial stereotypes of black Ranger being black and yellow Ranger being Asian.
