Sometime today, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will top Jurassic World to become the highest grossing movie released in 2015. On New Year's Eve, Star Wars: The Force Awakens pulled in an estimated $22.9 million at the domestic box office to bring its total domestic box office to $651.9 million.

Amazingly, this number is just short of the $652.3 that Jurassic World grossed during its entire run. In just two weeks, Star Wars: The Force Awakens almost became the highest grossing movie of 2015 (and it might still accomplish that feat once final numbers are released). Regardless, if revised New Year's Eve box office numbers don't push Star Wars: The Force Awakens over, New Year's Day numbers definitely will.

In addition to becoming the highest grossing movie of 2015, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will also pass Titanic's domestic box office of $658.7 million sometime today, moving into second place on the all-time highest-grossing movies at the domestic box office list. At this pace, it's only a matter of time before Star Wars: The Force Awakens passes Avatar's $760.5 million box office to take first place.

The question is quickly becoming not "Will Star Wars: The Force Awakens become the highest grossing movie ever at the domestic box office?" but "How high will Star Wars: The Force Awakens climb?". Could Star Wars: The Force Awakens become the first film ever to cross $1 billion at the domestic box office?
