The official numbers for New Year's Day are in, and Star Wars: The Force Awakens gets to chalk up yet another box office record. At $34.4 million in domestic revenue (an all-time high for the day), the movie officially hit $686 million in its fifteen day total in the States.

That officially passes Titanic's $658 million on the all-time domestic list, putting Star Wars in at second place, with a foregone conclusion that the film will pass Avatar for the new top spot at $760 million within the next few days.

The Force Awakens is expected to hit around $95 million this weekend, its third in theaters, which will utterly demolish Avatar's third weekend record of $68.5 million. Yes, at this point, industry trackers might as well just be creating new records for this movie to break. As we've noted before, the big record, worldwide box office cume, is the hardest to break at $2.788 billion, and we won't know about that potential until the movie opens in China next week.
