Laura Vandervoort to Appear on Supergirl

Laura Vandervoort, the actress who played Kara Zor-El in Smallville, will appear in an upcoming episode of Supergirl as the villain Indigo, producers revealed today at the Television Critics Association.

The character will appear in the fifteenth episode of the show's first season, which will follow on the heels of what are expected to be two anticipated episodes.

Indigo is described by producers as "a living, strong-willed supercomputer that was sentenced to Fort Rozz after turning against the people of Krypton. Now on Earth, Indigo will let nothing stand in her way."

When series star Melissa Benoist was first cast, there was a bit of consternation online, but Vandervoort was an early voice of support for her successor.

“Just make it you own,” Vandervoort said. “Everyone has an idea of how she should be, which I was concern about when I played her, but, when you find a way to relate to her and then bring in your own self into it, I think people appreciate it. You can’t make everything the same, so just make it your own.”

Supergirl returns with a new episode next Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS.

  2. One thing about this show but I found stupid so far I didn't care for the first episode but this has been getting better but the last episode it was completely ridiculous about her boss finding out she was super girl meaning I thought it was cool that her boss found out but even if her boss found out and her secret was still safe it was completely stupid that the Martian Manhunter show it up pretending to be her and her boss is so smart she will see that they look completely identical to me it just seemed idiotic they should have just left her Boss knowing that she was super girl her boss       is supposed to be is supposed to be highly intelligent so her boss would have figured that out too if not maybe she could have thought  they were sisters because they look identical

Vandervoot's advice was solid and from what I've seen Ms. Benoist has taken it to heart. I'm not a fan of all the episodes I've seen but the acting from all the regulars has been A-list quality. What I'm hoping for is a little editing/story assist from Geoff Johns now and then when the stories start to go lame. I'm confident this cast can take the series into Seasons Three and beyond.

I've got to give producer Greg Berlantti credit for how often he pays tribute to the actors from previous incarnations. Supergirl has had appearances by Dean Cain and Helen Slater, and now Laura Vandervoort (who was great as Supergirl in Smallville in the context of that show). Flash has brought back the two lead actors from the '90's show in small recurring roles, plus Mark Hamill as The Trickster twice. It is a nice acknowledgement to the fans.
