Avatar 2 Reportedly Won't Be Ready In Time For Planned Christmas 2017 Release

Just last month James Cameron said Avatar 2 would be in theaters "Christmas of 2017," but The Wrap is now reporting that the sequel to the 2009 mega-blockbuster won't be ready for its targeted release date.

20th Century Fox declined comment, however, "individuals with knowledge of the situation confirmed" the delay to The Wrap. This is the second time that Avatar 2 has been delayed. It was originally supposed to open last Christmas.

Much of the delay is with Cameron insisting on prepping for three Avatar sequels and filming them back-to-back-to-back with state-of-the-art technology. The plan has been to release the sequels one year after another during the same holiday corridor (December 2018 and 2019).

Avatar (2009) - A hybrid human-alien called an Avatar is created to facilitate communication with the indigenous Na'vis from the planet Pandora and pave the way for large-scale mining of the planet; after falling for a Na'vi woman, an avatar helps the locals roust the would-be exploiters when he realizes that mining will destroy their edenic planet.

Um, Avatar 2 has been delayed more than twice. It's been repeatedly pushed back so CW the first film's release. Maybe it's not being made at all, and Cameron is just toying with the people he thinks are still waiting or even caring about these sequels.

  1. Yeah, they can just keep pushing that back. Not really a big deal.

Interesting.........so now Avatar 2 won't be coming out in the same month as Star Wars:Episode VIII in December 2017.Coincidence?Maybe not.But it sure looks that way.

This movie should have began pre-production the moment it crossed $500 domestically and should have been released two years ago. I think Avatar's time has come and gone. For as much money as it made, it's had almost no cultural impact. It's just this movie that came, made a ton of money, and was gone. I could be wrong; I've learned to not doubt James Cameron too much.
