Super Bowl 2016 Movie Trailers

super-bowl-50-trailers

The price of a commercial for the golden Super Bowl, Super Bowl 50, has hit another record high, spiking between $4.6-5 million for thirty seconds. Luckily for comic book and genre film fans, the companies making them happen to have a lot of money to spend on the marketing side of things. Based on what's been released so far, or speculated on, here are the trailers you're likely to see during the big game.

What we know: Fox has bought two 30-second spots, Universal one 60-second spot, Paramount one 30-second spot, and Disney an undisclosed "multiple spots." Sony and Warner Bros have reportedly not bought any.

Deadpool – Confirmed for a TV spot, one of Fox's two, Deadpool also has a significant presence on the ground in Santa Clara and San Francisco. The official press junket for the film, which premieres five days after the game, is being held there the same weekend. Deadpool stars Ryan Reynolds in his passion project, directed by Tim Miller. It hits theaters February 12, 2016.

Independence-Day-Resurgence-213 PM

Independence Day: Resurgence – The sequel twenty years in the making, this is another movie that's getting an on-the-ground presence at Super Bowl L, and could get a trailer during the game, too. Only one trailer has been released so far, and Fox might want to go with this for spot #2 instead of resting all their hopes on two Marvel comic book movies. Independence Day: Resurgence makes contact in theaters June 24, 2016.

X-Men: Apocalypse – If Fox decides not to go with ID:R, they'll almost certainly use their second spot on X-Men: Apocalypse. Their second Marvel Comics film of the year, Apocalypse stars new Hollywood golden boy Oscar Isaac as the titular villain, and rounds out the trilogy of films with the "new" cast that started with X-Men: First Class. When a thousands-of-years-old mutant rises from a hibernation, new X-Men have to join with old to defeat him, plus some of their own friends and enemies. X-Men: Apocalypse drops May 27, 2016.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows – This is Paramount's 30-second spot for this year, advertising the sequel to their rebooted franchise. The sequel sees Stephen Amell join the cast as Casey Jones, and the villains Krang, Bebop, and Rocksteady join Shredder. TMNT: Out of the Shadows hits theaters June 3, 2016.

Bourne

Bourne 5 – The fifth Bourne film is Matt Damon's return to the franchise after the offshoot film Bourne: Legacy. Author Eric Van Lustbader posted the news that the trailer would be airing on facebook - and has since taken the post down, which only seems to further confirm we'll see the trailer. Hopefully that means we'll also get an actual title for the movie.

Captain-America-Civil-War-Beatdown

Captain America: Civil War – Unconfirmed, but a virtual guarantee that Marvel Studios and Disney use one of their spots for Cap. The next big Marvel Studios film still has some major tricks up its sleeve, like a rumored change for one of the newest Avengers, or the reveal of Spider-Man's new MCU look. Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6, 2016.

Zootopia – After the surprising lack of success for Disney's last animated film, The Good Dinosaur (Pixar), they'll want a strong showing from Zootopia. It's also the next movie on their release schedule post-Super Bowl, and it's full of pop culture references. A football-themed Zootopia spot is a good bet for some side action. The movie hits March 4, 2016.

The Jungle Book – If Disney spends on three movies, this'll be the third. A big bet for the studio, it's the next live-action interpretation of one of their classic animated films. It has Jon Favreau, who directed Iron Man, at the helm, and sports incredible CGI graphics unlike anything seen before. The Jungle Book hits theaters April 15, 2017.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – While Warner Bros reportedly hasn't purchased a spot for the Super Bowl, they are co-sponsoring the Doritos fan ad for this year's game, so it's possible we'll get a small tease when that comes up, and a new trailer online at the same time. Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters March 25, 2016, so the marketing has to ramp up significantly soon.
