Star Wars: The Force Awakens will pass the $900 million mark in domestic box office today, Walt Disney Studios announced via a press release. The film, in its 50th day of release, is the only movie to break that mark in history, not accounting for inflation.

The movie is also expected to pass the $2 billion global box office cume tomorrow, Saturday the fifth of February. It joins elite company in that category, only the third film to do so after Avatar and Titanic. The latter did so only after a re-release, as well.

"This is a historic moment for Star Wars, for Lucasfilm, and for Disney, and all of us here are extremely gratified to be a part of this journey with fans around the world who have made Star Wars: The Force Awakens such an extraordinary success," said Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios in the press release. "The film's achievements are truly astounding, and it's our great honor to relaunch this cinematic galaxy not only for all the devoted decades-long fans but for a new generation who will keep the Star Wars legacy alive for many years to come."

The Force Awakens is now the owner of over thirty box office records, including preview night, opening day, single day, first second and third weekend, Friday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, opening week, fastest to 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 million dollars, fastest to one billion dollars globally, and the highest grossing film of all time in the US and UK, amongst many more.

Next up for Star Wars is Rogue One: A Star Wars Story on December 16, 2016, followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII on December 15, 2017. Star Wars Rebels also currently airs on Disney XD.
