When Stephen Amell said at Heroes and Villains Fan Fest that he wanted Deathstroke to return to Arrow, with Manu Bennett returning to the role, the internet exploded. Bennett tweeted out his support, though he does have another TV series right now.
Well, executive producer Marc Guggenheim may have just doused that particular fire, at least for the time being. In a Tumblr q&a page, Guggenheim answered a question about Slade Wilson or Walter returning to the show.
"The character of Slade Wilson is currently tied up in another DC project," Guggenheim said. "Walter is more likely."
It's an interesting response, and one that seems indicative of larger issues in the sharing of characters between DC Television and DC Film sides of DC Entertainment. Suicide Squad is the likely culprit, here, as rumors have pointed to Scott Eastwood playing Slade. That film is also probably why Amanda Waller was killed off on the show recently, and is absolutely why the Squad won't make anymore appearances on the series, after playing a prominent role for a couple of early seasons. It's also possible that Slade Wilson/Deathstroke could appear in another future film, like the Batman solo movie for Ben Affleck's take on the character.
Where this TV/movie clash will get even more interesting is in 2018, when The Flash gets his first big screen solo film starring Ezra Miller. If The CW's The Flash is in the midst of its fourth season at the same time, DCE and Warner Bros will have to address the issue more directly, and control the message of why some characters can exist in both and others can't.
