It's no secret that Fox has played fast and loose with the X-Men cinematic timeline. To try to make any sense of it would be an exercise in futility. At least you don't have to worry about where 2016's Deadpool fits into it, as Ryan Reynolds believes the Merc with a Mouth is in a separate universe.

During a recent interview, a reporter brought up the timeline to Reynolds with an IMDB post, which states: "This version of Deadpool differs from the one in X-Men Origins: Wolverine due to the change in timeline during X-Men: Days of Future Past."

"I really don't think this has anything to do with Days of Future Past or its timeline," Reynolds told Filmstart. "If it were Deadpool, he could tell Days of Future Past to take its timeline and go f--k itself. We make fun of the timelines in the movie. But no, Deadpool is not effected by that at all. Deadpool I think is just his own thing, his own universe. Anytime that the X-Men sort of interact with Deadpool in his universe they do so at their own risk and peril."

Based upon Marvel Comics' most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Deadpool hits theaters on Feb. 12, 2016.
