LEGO Dimensions Ghosbusters

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment recently rolled out the latest wave of additional content for LEGO Dimensions, the intellectual property mashup of a toys-to-life videogame. The new wave includes the LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters Level Pack, which features three buildable minifigures, a new story mission called "A Spook Central Adventure," and a new open world level to explore.

The Ghostbusters level pack is similar to the previous Back to the Future pack. The adventure allows players to experience the highlights of the first Ghostbusters movie in LEGO videogame form and undercut with the LEGO games' signature sense of humor. Players control Dr. Peter Venkman, whose minifigures is included with the pack. As Venkman, player will battle the likes of Slimer, Gozer, and the Stay Puft Marshmallow man. Players will jump in the Ecto-1, the pack's second minifigure, to buzz through the streets of the LEGO city on the way from one set piece to the next.

The third minifigure included with the pack is the Ghost Trap, which factors significantly into the core mechanic of the adventure. Players use their proton pack like a laser to solve puzzles, but also use it to wrangle ghost hordes, just like the Ghostbusters in the film. Once the paranormal pests are bundled together, players drag them to the open ghost trap and lock them inside. The pack can then be used to unlock certain puzzle devices. It's a simply mechanic, as you'd expect from a LEGO game, but a satisfying one nonetheless.

The story is told using dialogue ported directly from the film. How you appreciate this decision is largely a matter of personal taste. There is a certain quality to the sound, or perhaps it's just recognition, that makes it feel of another piece than the game itself, but TT Games was clever enough to repurpose lines from the film into some truly funny new jokes. There's also the original music from the film, which remains as delightful as ever and is strongly paced throughout the adventure.

Playing through the story mission takes about an hour, depending on how fast of a LEGO builder you are and how much time you spend looking for collectibles. Completion unlocks a new open world area for players to explore. Once unlocked, players can control any of the four Ghostbusters as they undertake side quests and find collectibles throughout the city. There's enough content to easily add another few hours of gameplay. Characters from other properties can also be used in both the story mission and open world play, with WIldstyle uncovering hidden puzzles and Gandalf moving magical objects, for example.

The LEGO Dimensions Ghostbusters Level Pack is priced at $30 for several hours of additional content and three minifigures that can be used throughout the entire game. Considering how well "A Spook Central Adventure" translates the humor and fun of the movie, it's an easy recommendation for anyone who's invested in LEGO Dimensions and who is a fan of the original Ghostbusters film.

You know who to call.
