The Internet just about burned down when the news of Jon Bernthal being cast as The Punisher for Daredevil's second season broke.

Bernthal was a fan-favorite character on The Walking Dead before his character bowed out in the second season a few years ago. Since, the actor has gone on to play roles in films and TV such as The Wolf of Wall Street, Mob City, Snitch, Fury and Sicario. Every time, he has nailed his role.

Over the weekend, ComicBook.com had the chance to speak with one of the few folks who have been with The Walking Dead since it first started back in 2010: executive producer Gale Anne Hurd. Hurd was around for Bernthal's Shane Walsh days and she's quite eager to see him take on the role of Frank Castle.

"I can't imagine a better Frank Castle, to bring the Punisher to life on Netflix," Hurd says. "I just can't. I saw Jon while he was shooting last year, and he's an incredibly committed actor. He's able to find the sort of darkness that Frank Castle needs. Depending on who was drawing Frank Castle at the time, he also can look very much like some of the Frank Castles. I love the Garth Ennis version and I haven't read the script so I'm not quite sure where they're going, but I know in terms of that dark, grounded and gritty Frank Castle that no one is better."

Frank Castle is definitely a dark character, one which we may have seen shades of during Bernthal's time as Shane Walsh. While we'll have to wait to see Bernthal's portrayal of the Marvel anti-hero, a new Daredevil trailer will arrive tomorrow, which will likely give us our first good look at the character!
