Gary Whitta has been keeping busy since writing Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The writer, who took on the duties of the screenplay for the first ever non-episodic stand-alone live-action movie in the Star Wars universe, has also worked with Lucasfilm's animation branch.

In May 2015, Whitta tweeted that he was "Writing an episode of Star Wars Rebels" while his daughter sat in his office wearing Rebels PJs and watching the show. Today, he revealed he's back at it, writing another episode of the series.

Of course, this is bound to prompt speculation, as fans of the TV series have been hoping that there might be a bit of crossover, with a character (or multiple characters) from Rebels making the jump to live-action on the big screen in Rogue One. The show takes place about four years prior to the events of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, and Rogue One will take place shortly before the same film, so the timing is pretty good, after all.

Of course, this could just be Whitta getting more work from a company that's been impressed by his work. It's unclear whether his first episode is in the second season or not, with animation production schedules being as drawn out as they are; he's not the listed "head writer" on any episodes so far this season. With the Story Group, Lucasfilm is in a unique position to share employees across mediums. Whitta has written for other television shows, as well, so bouncing between the big and small screens isn't too strange.

Still, it's fun to think about, right?

Star Wars Rebels has its season 2 finale on March 30, and has been picked up for a third season already. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits theaters this December.
