James Wan dropped by WonderCon on Saturday to promote his upcoming horror films, The Conjuring 2 and Lights Out, but he did take some time to answer a few questions about his upcoming superhero film, Aquaman — that will star Jason Momoa in the title role.

With the dark and gritty tone of Zack Snyder's Batman v. Superman being criticized by some, Wan was asked what the tone of Aquaman will be. "The kind of filmmaker that I am, even my darker horror films generally are still very fun," the talented filmmaker told IGN. "And I think that's important for me and the kind of films I make.

"I think Aquaman is a character that a lot of people have made fun of over the years, and I just think it's fun to actually show a really different, cool, badass side to this character," he added. "But the same time, let's not forget to have fun with it."

Aquaman will swim into theaters July 27, 2018.
