Star Wars's Erik Bauersfeld, Who Played Admiral Ackbar, Has Died

Erik Bauersfeld, who voiced the minor-but-fan-favorite Rebel Admiral Ackbar in Return of the Jedi and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, has passed away at age 93, THR reports.

"Actor Erik Bauersfeld, known by Star Wars fans around globe as the voice of Admiral Ackbar, has passed away," said a statement from Bauersfeld's management at Coolwaters Productions. "His passing comes at the age of 93 and the cause was natural causes. Erik will be deeply missed by his family here at Coolwaters and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Bauersfeld, who is also credited with roles in Crimson Peak and Steven Spielberg's AI: Artificial Intelligence, also voiced Bib Fortuna in Return of the Jedi. He also served as Bauersfeld served as the Director of the drama and literature department at Berkeley/San Francisco's KPFA for more than thirty years.
