After opening with $69 million (on its way to a $469.2 million worldwide total) in February 2014, Warner Bros. didn't hesitate to give a green-light to The LEGO Movie sequel. But since it was announced, the studio has pushed its release date back twice. It was originally set for a May 26, 2017 release, and then a year later, it was pushed back to May 18, 2018, and now, it will open on February 2, 2019.

Last November, Phil Lord and Chris Miller turned in the official first draft of The LEGO Movie 2. The talented pair wrote and directed the 2014 film, but because they are so in-demand at the moment, they handed the directing duties of the sequel over to Rob Schrab, who is making his feature film directorial debut.

Aside from The LEGO Movie sequel, WB also shuffled the release dates of three of their other upcoming films. Dean Devlin's disaster flick Geostorm is moving from 1/13/17 to 10/20/17. Owen Wilson/Ed Helms comedy Bastards, is moving from 11/04/16 to 01/27/17. Ben Affleck's Live By Night is moving from 10/20/17 to 01/13/17.

The original 3D computer animated story follows Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

The LEGO Movie 2 will be released on February 2, 2019.
