With more time comes even more changes for Warner Bros. and its LEGO Movie sequel. News broke earlier in the year that the anticipated sequel was getting a release date change, and now, Variety is reporting that The LEGO Movie 2 is getting a rewrite.

The sequel was originally drafted by its producers, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The duo has already taken part in the franchise as they both directed the first LEGO Movie back in 2014. However, as the pair are now focused on the pre-production of the still-unnamed Star Wars spin-off featuring Han Solo, the two are obviously a little bit busy.

See, this is where Raphael Bob-Waksberg enters the picture

Raphael has been brought in to rewrite the script on behalf of Warner Bros. The writer is best-known for his TV work on shows such as Adult Hospital and BoJack Horseman. The latter, which airs on Netflix, has done well and is scheduled to have its third season premiere later this month on July 22nd. While The LEGO Movie 2 will stand as the writer's first big screen credit, Raphael is no stranger to self-aware humor. He recently sold a collection of short stories to Knopf Publishing entitled, Someone Who Will Love You in All Your Damaged Glory: Bang-Your-Knee, Bust-Your-Heart-Open Love Stories.

It's no secret that rewrites do happen on big-budget films, and The LEGO Movie 2 certainly qualifies as such a project. The first LEGO Movie was an unexpected box-office smash as it grossed $469 million worldwide, and its sequel is getting a full-on VIP treatment. Rob Schrab is set to direct the upcoming film while Lord and Miller produce this time around. Other producers from the first film will be returning for the sequel like Dan Lin and Roy Lee.

For now, LEGO Movie fans will just have to rewatch the franchise's first installment, at least until its first spin-off reaches theaters later next year. The LEGO Batman Movie is slated for release on February 10th 2017 while The LEGO Ninjago Movie will hit theaters on September 22, 2017. The LEGO Movie 2 will then be released almost two years later on February 8th 2019.
