The "Terrible Truth" of what happens to food is explored in this latest television spot for the R-rated animated film Sausage Party.

"I don't consider animation a genre," the film's star and co-writer, Seth Rogen, told members of the press (via slashfilm) at San Diego Comic-Con. "I consider animation a medium. I think in some ways, Sausage Party is a movie that has the skin of a Pixar movie but ultimately is made for adults as opposed to children and is subversive at times, has very dirty humor I guess you would say. I don't consider them the same thing. Sausage Party I would compare more to This Is The End in that it's maybe two genres coming together. Where that was horror and comedy, this is maybe like Pixar and more R-rated humor. That's pretty much it."

Sausage Party, the first R-rated CG animated movie, is about one sausage leading a group of supermarket products on a quest to discover the truth about their existence and what really happens when they become chosen to leave the grocery store.

The film features the vocal talents of a who's who of today's comedy stars – Seth Rogen (Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising), Kristen Wiig (The Secret Life of Walter Mitty), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street), Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), James Franco (Rise of the Planet of the Apes), Danny McBride (Eastbound & Down), Craig Robinson (Zack and Miri Make a Porno), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War), Nick Kroll (The League), David Krumholtz (Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay), Edward Norton (The Incredible Hulk), and Salma Hayek (From Dusk till Dawn).

The film is directed By Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan. The story was written By Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Jonah Hill. The screenplay was penned by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, Kyle Hunter, and Ariel Shaffir. It was produced by Megan Ellison, Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, and Conrad Vernon. Jonah Hill, James Weaver, Ariel Shaffir, and Kyle Hunter served as executive producers.

Sausage Party hits theaters on August 12th.
