PokeNatomy Art Series From Christopher Stoll

Pokemon players are mostly too busy trying to catch the adorable little creatures to notice the intricacies of what makes them tick, but if you've ever found yourself wondering how Pokemon work internally, then artist Christopher Stoll has the perfect art series for you.

Stoll has started publishing an art series called PokeNatomy, which takes your favorite Pokemon and breaks them down to their most basic foundations, akin to something you'd see on your science teacher's lab table. Each one is heavily detailed, showing the outer appearance and what's inside, and explaining what each organ and specially constructed nerve system do to support their host.

Take Bulbasaur for example. Bulbasaur's plant that resides on his back is used for defense but is also completely reliant on the host for survival. It's linked to his nervous system, and since it becomes heavier over time, the Pokemon's legs are made up of mostly muscle to keep him walking. It won't help you catch him in Pokemon GO, but at least you'll understand what you're catching.

For a second example, take Magikarp, who has been referred to as useless, and who's own theme song is anything but uplifting. In his profile here, we see that his scales protect him considerably, which is good since all he seems to do is flap around. His profile refers to a "great potential strength", which for anyone who has evolved a Magikarp, you know what he's talking about.

While all the stats and facts listed here aren't most likely Nintendo canon (especially that profile on Rattata's), it's still a fantastic in-depth look at how a real Pokemon might function.
