Riverdale Resumes Production, Showrunner Shares Class Photo

While much of the attention has been paid to The CW's DC Comics-centric lineup of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and the newly added Supergirl, the network also has another much anticipated comic book property coming in early 2017.

That series is called Riverdale, and it's derived from the long-running Archie comics line. Chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre Sacasa recently took to Twitter to celebrate the cast and crew's return to production on episodes 2 and 3, and shared a new photo from the set.

The pilot for Riverdale was shown at San Diego Comic-Con this year, and ComicBook.com's Russ Burlingame had some extremely positive things to say about it.

"The way Riverdale juxtaposes and interweaves the traditional mythology of Archie's world with the strange new world the show is constructing is a big part of what makes it appealing -- and, honestly, it calls back to the first season of iZombie, a series that diverges pretty significantly from its source material but still manages to connect with the soul of the comics and appeal to both audiences who have and haven't read Chris Roberson and Mike Allred's late, lamented Vertigo title."

Riverdale stars KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge, Ashleigh Murray as Josie McCoy, Luke Perry as Fred Andrews, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Madelaine Petsch as Cheryl Blossom, Ross Butler as Reggie Mantle, Casey Cott as Kevin Keller, Mädchen Amick as Alice Cooper, and Marisol Nichols as Hermione Lodge.

Riverdale is coming to The CW in early 2017.
