In the fallout of Captain America: Civil War, the Avengers have found themselves scattered - and it doesn't seem like Nick Fury will too happy about the breakup. The eye-patched character has been mostly MIA in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but Samuel L Jackson believes Fury and SHIELD are coming back sooner rather than later.

The actor spoke with ComingSoon.net recently and explained he thinks there is still a place for SHIELD in the MCU. "Yeah! For sure, definitely," he said. "Why wouldn't there be?"

"There's some way of fixing what they created, and hopefully somebody has that going on or Nick Fury is out there — wherever he is, probably hanging out with Jules and walking the world — figuring out what happened and how it got to that particular place."

The actor went on to say that Marvel Studios will "bring me back somehow, some way, for some reason."

"I mean, they didn't have me around to referee the kids when they didn't go to their rooms and got in this big old fight. We'll see what happens," he said.

Clearly, if Fury had been around, the no-nonsense spy would have sat the Avengers down for a needed timeout. The super-spy was notably absent from the events of Civil War, something that the writers did intentionally.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Christopher Markus admitted Fury was kept away from Civil War as a sort of social experiment.

"He's been the sort of parent figure to the Avengers," Christopher explained. "Let the parent go away, and see if the kids can handle this. See if the kids can be who they're supposed to be without that governing voice. Um...and they didn't do that good of a job."

"We didn't want him to take one side or the other, because that's not his place in the universe. And then we didn't want another, 'Is he still with the government? Is he opposed to the government but supporting the government?' It got to be the potential for a lot more polemic discussion that the movie did not have room for."

As for when we'll see Samuel L Jackson reprise the role, it might be a bit. The actor has said he thinks he could return in Avengers: Infinity War, but that is still an 'if' and the film won't hit until 2018 anyways.

And, when it comes to SHIELD, fans can see how the shadowy organization is presently through Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. The hit drama recently returned for its fourth season and will introduce viewers to the brand-new Director of SHIELD tonight. Previously, Agent Phil Coulson held the position, but a shift in power last season prompted the fan-favorite spy to demote himself.

Avengers: Infinity War will hit theaters on May 4, 2018.
