Captain America: Civil War will feature a small army of superheroes battling it out over the registration act, but it won't contain one key member of the Avengers mythos.

Nick Fury has gone silent since the events of Captain America: Winter Solider, and while at CinemaCon the actor behind the role, Samuel L. Jackson, spoke a bit to Fandango about when we might see him again.

"I think I'm in Avengers 3 and 4, but I'm not in Civil War."

Shield is still reeling from its infiltration by Hydra, and now the Avengers can't even see eye to eye. At some point, Fury's leadership will be needed, and it makes sense to bring him in after the dust has settled from Civil War. The first chance we'll see him is in Avengers: Infinity War Part 1, which releases in 2018.

While they were on the subject, Fandango asked if he had chosen a side.

"Ahhhh, I don't know. I haven't given it much thought," Jackson says with a smirk, adding that whatever side he chooses won't get him in trouble. "I'm Nick Fury -- Nick Fury is above all that."

Captain America: Civil War debuts on May 6th.
