Let's leave it to Kero - oh, well, maybe not. Instead, we will let CLAMP take control of today's big anime news. The Japanese publisher finally confirmed some long-spun rumors today about Cardcaptor Sakura. The franchise is being gifted with an all-new anime.

Currently, CLAMP is published its latest iteration of Cardcaptor Sakura in the manga periodical Nakayoshi. The magazine released this month's issue yesterday and teased fans with a major revelation. The issue was prefaced by art which told readers that, "a new anime is underway."

Aside from that line, there is no other details out there about the forthcoming anime. Fans are not sure whether the series will tie-in with the manga's current 'Clear Card' arc or if it will be a straightforward remake of the original anime. So far, it seems that fans are particularly hopeful that the new show will be a continuation from where the first series left off.

Of course, there are plenty of fans who have been waiting for this update. Cardcaptor Sakura is one of the most popular shojo franchises of all-time, and this year marks its 20th anniversary. Given CLAMP's fan-driven community, many had hoped the company would greenlight a new anime to celebrate the milestone.

Earlier this summer, fans were teased about a new series when Nakayoshi hinted that CLAMP had "super super new news" in its December issue. Of course, that issue is the one which just debuted, so fans are now well aware of the exciting update.

As this year is Cardcaptor Sakura's 20th anniversary, CLAMP is going all-out for the magical girl franchise. Back in June, fans were treated to a new manga series which follows Sakura Kinomoto after she graduates from Tomoeda Elementary School. The hero, who moonlights as cardcaptor tasked with corralling 52 lost Clow Cards, is now in her first year of junior high. The sequel follows Sakura after she has a very strange dream and learns of an incident that will change her life forever.

When the original Cardcaptor Sakura anime debuted in 1998, it was considered a hit. Its manga was first published in 1996 and ran for four years, selling more than 12 million copies to date. Since then, Tokyopop as translated the series into English and Dark Horse has released an omnibus format of the series. The anime adaptation ran for two years, and two full-length films were published in 1999 and 2000 respectively.

Cardcaptor Skaura won't be the only old-school series to be rebooted. Toei Animation revived Digimon earlier this year with the new series Digimon Adventure tri. which follows the original show's group of DigiDestined during high school. Sailor Moon was also recently remade into a series called Sailor Moon Crystal that featured all-new graphics and 3D animation.
