Earlier this fall, Shin Godzilla stomped its way into U.S. theaters when Funimation Films aired the international blockbuster stateside. Fans flocked to cinemas to see the Japanese return of Godzilla after a prolonged hiatus, and it may not be too much longer until Western fans see the film hit Blu-ray and DVD. In Japan, a release date for the film's 4K Ultra HD Blu-ry disc has just been announced.

Next spring, Japanese fans will be able to buy Shin Godzilla in stores. The Blu-ray is set to release on March 22, 2017. If you are a hardcore Godzilla fan, then you might want to resign yourself to paying shipping for the international item. The special edition piece will likely contain lots of behind-the-scenes goodies which will be overlooked in a North American release.

Still, you should be warned about the purchase. The Shin Godzilla Blu-ray likely won't contain English subtitles until Funimation can sell their own home release. Toho Studios is notorious for foregoing subs, and Shin Godzilla won't be an exception.

If you are wondering when the North American release of Shin Godzilla may hit shelves, then don't get too excited. History has shown fans that live-action subbing can take a long time, so the film probably won't be available on Blu-ray stateside until late-2017.

In Shin Godzilla, it's a peaceful day in Japan when a strange fountain of water erupts in the bay, causing panic to spread among government officials. At first, they suspect only volcanic activity, but one young executive dares to wonder if it may be something different… something alive. His worst nightmare comes to life when a massive, gilled monster emerges from the deep and begins tearing through the city, leaving nothing but destruction in its wake. As the government scrambles to save the citizens, a rag-tag team of volunteers cuts through a web of red tape to uncover the monster's weakness and its mysterious ties to a foreign superpower. But time is not on their side—the greatest catastrophe to ever befall the world is about to evolve right before their very eyes.
