Fans are getting their first look at Transformers: The Last Knight - and since no big movie franchise these days can release an installment without promoting two future ones, we're also learning that plans for Transformers 6 & 7 are already (sort of) in place.

During an interview, Lorenzo di Bonaventura revealed that (in Collider's words), "they have outlines for six and seven. However, they haven't started writing the scripts because they didn't want to rush them and needed to see how The Last Knight would change during filming."

This is loosely the same strategy that Marvel Studios came to adopt when making their Marvel Cinematic Universe films: have a framework in place, but leave room to adapt to changing circumstances. After all, you can never predict exactly how the fanbase will react to a film, or elements of a film, and how you may need to tweak things as a result. A perfect example is Tom Hiddleston's Loki, who was only supposed to be a one-off villain in Thor until his rampant popularity made him an MCU mainstay.

Transformers 6 and 7 Story Plans

Transformers: The Last Knight was always seen as part of a new saga that began with Age of Extinction, and confirmation of Transformers 6 - 8 came during production on 5. As stated, the filmmakers are waiting to see fan reaction to The Last Knight, but much change or "tweaking" to the formula shouldn't be expect - not unless Michael Bay finally hands the director's seat to someone else. Despite a decade of complaints, The Last Knight looks like every other Transformers movie that has preceded it.
