Logan Soundtrack Has A Marvel Comics Easter Egg

Logan is making quite the impression on moviegoers this weekend for a variety of reasons, but no action sequence or touching moment can reach its full potential without an equally potent soundtrack. Aside from the musical score, the soundtrack also packs a welcome nod to longtime Wolverine fans.

The soundtrack includes 25 tracks and manages to give you a sense of the way Logan’s plot plays out. Marvel fans will keenly notice that track 4 has a very familiar name, as it’s called “Old Man Logan“. “Old Man Logan” is the Mark Millar and Steve McNiven series that served as the inspiration for Logan, a legacy you can see all over the well-received film. From the future setting and aging Wolverine to the lack of any other heroes or X-Men, the story’s influences can be found throughout.

That said, there are also many differences, as characters like The Red Skull, Hawkeye, and The Hulk were substantial parts of the original story. Since FOX doesn’t own those characters, significant changes had to be made. It looks like audiences are thoroughly enjoying how the final film came out, though, as Logan is currently holding an 88.55 score on ComicBook.com’s composite rankings.

Logan takes place in the year 2029, where mutant births have become extremely rare. The defenders of mutant kind, the X-Men, are long gone, and the only remains of them are an old and struggling Charles Xavier and a weary Logan. Logan’s vaunted healing factor has slowed, and at times doesn’t seem to work at all. When a young mutant needs his help, Logan has to unsheathe his claws once more. His job isn’t over yet.

Logan stars Hugh Jackman (Logan), Boyd Holbrook (Donald Pierce), Patrick Stewart (Charles Xavier), Dafne Keen (Laura Kinney/X-23), Doris Morgado (Maria), Stephen Merchant (Caliban), Elizabeth Rodriguez (Gabriela), and Richard E. Grant (Dr. Zander Rice). James Mangold is directing and helped on the screenplay along with Scott Frank and Michael Green.
