For the last four years, premium cable subscribers have had nothing-but-fun with Showtime's hired-hand drama, Ray Donovan. The Liev Schreiber-starring series has enjoyed a slew of critical acclaim, as well as high fan ratings.

As the fifth season of the show heads into production, a new casting announcement has audiences more excited than ever.

Showtime has announced that Hollywood veteran Susan Sarandon has joined the new season in a recurring role.

Sarandon's character is named Samantha Winslow, and it seems like she will be a thorn in Ray's side throughout the season. Winslow is the head of a motion picture studio, and she's been described as strong and focused.

Susan Sarandon's name is synonymous with success, as the actress has earned a ton of nominations throughout her career. With Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe nominations under her belt, Sarandon has proven to be a powerhouse in any role she's given.

Over the last few weeks, many fans have felt like the actress is in the middle of a resurgence. Sarandon stars opposite Jessica Lange in Ryan Murphy's Feud: Bette & Joan. The new drama has debuted to great ratings, and is becoming somewhat of a critical darling.

Ray Donovan is currently gearing up for its fifth season, which is set to air sometime in 2017.

Ray Donovan stars Liev Schreiber as L.A.'s best professional fixer – the man called in to make the city's celebrities, superstar athletes and business moguls' most complicated and combustible situations go away. Jon Voight also stars, along with Paula Malcomson, Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, Steven Bauer, Katherine Moennig, Pooch Hall, Kerris Dorsey and Devon Bagby.
