Lost in the excitement of a re-booted The Matrix franchise possibility was the news that there is a chance uber-talented Michael B. Jordan may be the star of the movie.
First mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter, sources are leaking information that the Fantastic Four and Creed cast member would be targeted for the production.
Jordan is currently shooting in Atlanta as Erik Killmonger for the upcoming Black Panther film and has not responded to the rumors.
Deadline originally reported that Warner Bros. is still exploring the idea and that there are no concrete offers on the table, to anyone. That obviously means there is no word on whether the Wachowski siblings would writer and direct the project or if the original cast would even be invited back.
Deadline also reported that the studio is "likely to create a writer's room of scribes to figure out a possible way to relaunch the franchise."
THR confirmed the initial reporting and added that Zak Penn is in talks to write a script treatment.
Recently, Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishbourne reunited for John Wick 2, and their on-screen chemistry garnered lots of praise. The movie earned an 82.08 in the ComicBook Composite and a 4.02-of-5 in the ComicBook.com User Ranking.
During the promotion of John Wick 2, Reeves said that would be interested in returning to the franchise and added that he would only come back for a fourth movie under some very specific circumstances.
"The Wachowskis would have to be involved," he told Yahoo Movies. "They would have to write it and direct it. And then we'd see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that'd be weird, but why not?
"People die, stories don't, people in stories don't."
The Matrix was released without much fanfare as it debuted in a late-March period of 1999 but the story and ground-breaking special effects -- namely the slow-motion bullets which has taken over the industry since -- helped it to become the highest grossing R-rated film in North America that year as well as the fourth-highest grossing worldwide.
The original also won four Academy Awards and helped spur two sequels, which were not as well received critically or by the fanbase, but helped to solidify Reeves' spot in the industry.
