When you think of L from Death Note, a few things may come to mind. White t-shirts, messy hair, and the character's odd way of sitting could all pop up - and it looks like Lakeith Stanfield wants to change all of that. Later this year, Netflix will debut its live-action take on Death Note thanks to director Adam Wingard, and its trailer showed fans that its aesthetic would be notably different from the anime.

Now, fans have been teased with an 'exclusive' first-look at L in action. The actor playing the prodigal detective promised to give fans a look at the character on social media - and he came through. Well, kind of.

"DEATH NOTE Sneak peak of my L," Stanfield wrote, saying he had an exclusive clip to give his fans.

Sadly, the footage was not what fans had hoped to see.

In the video, fans can watch as the actor walks into a dark room whilst hunched over. With a hoodie covering his face, Stanfield drops a load of NSFW language as he makes L say something rather unexpected things. You can check out the tirade in the video below.

It doesn't seem likely that Death Note will use this kind of take for L, but the Netflix title has been described as a rated R affair.

In an interview with Collider, the director opened up about his vision for Death Note.

"We can do whatever we want," he started. "So, doing my first live-action anime thing, to me it was important that you have those adult themes. So, it's got nudity, it's got swearing, it's got a ton of violence."

"The thing about anime is that it's so adult-oriented," he continued. "I remember going to Suncoast growing up and you see Akira there with the little 'Not for Kids' sticker on it. That always made an impact on me."

What if you had the power to decide who lives and who dies? We suggest you obey the rules. Based on the famous Japanese manga written by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone's name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

Death Note will be available to stream on Netflix beginning August 25, 2017.
