In an interview with MTV, casting director Bernie Telsey revealed that American Idol Contestant Adam Lambert has been approached to play Spider-Man in the upcoming Broadway musical, Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark.

Telsey also told MTV that Spider-Man producers approached the contestant to audition for the role of Peter Parker about seven months ago. Due to Lambert's obligations with the American Idol show, he had to refuse. However, Telsey and Broadway backers are hopeful that once the American Idol competition is complete later this spring, Lambert will decide to tackle the role. "Let him go win, and then he can come and replace Spider-man a year after the run. He'd be great," Telsey said.

Lambert is known for his glam rocker outfits and raven black hair on the Fox singing competition. Since the beginning of the show's current season, Lambert has been an early favorite to win the title of American Idol, putting his unique spin on classic songs such as Smokey Robinson's Tracks of My Tears and Steppenwolf's Born to Be Wild.

Lambert would not be the first Idol contestant who has decided to pursue a career on Broadway after their tenure on the show. Nor would this be Lambert's first experience with a musical cast. Before auditioning for Idol, Lambert was an alum of the Los Angeles production of Wicked.

Should Lambert decide to join the cast of Spider-Man, he must first complete a summer long tour with other contestants from the show. If Lambert wins the title of "The Next American Idol," that could add further obligations for the singer before he can become the next "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man."
