'Gossip Girl' Comic Book in the Works

Cecily von Ziegesar's world of affluent and well-coiffed teens will climb its way into comic book stores, but this time in the form of manga. Gossip Girl, first a series of novels and now a popular show on CW, will be brought to you courtesy of Yen Press Publishing starting next month. Gossip Girl: For Your Eyes Only will begin chronicling a re-imagination of leading characters Blair and Vanessa as they go through their senior years in school. This could be a great move for Yen Press, as the novels themselves have been bestsellers, reaching over five million copies in sales; the tv show has also proven to be quite popular with a wide range of viewers, and airs in a solid time slot. Kurt Hassler, Publishing Director of Yen Press, had this to say about the planned series, "There are few series in the publishing world that have been as impactful or successful as Cecily von Ziegesar's Gossip Girl. The novels have captured the imaginations of young women around the world, and we look forward to demonstrating with Gossip Girl: For Your Eyes Only that graphic novels as a medium can be just as welcoming to girls as it is to boys.
