With comic book movies hotter than ever, casting for various film projects has been rampant and swift. In the case of some very recent news about a Supergirl remake, swift is definitely the appropriate word! Twenty-year old country music superstar Taylor Swift is reported to be the frontrunner for the lead role as Superman's Kryptonian cousin Kara Zor-El, who possesses many of the same powers as him in her guise as Supergirl. Sources say that Swift has all the right elements to play the super teen, along with mega star power and a massive following among a broad swath of the public. Swift will make her big-screen debut in the spring of 2010 in the film Valentine's Day, and this might be a good test of her box office pull. The baseline for measurement against the Supergirl film of the 1980's, starring Helen Slater, is low, considering that many panned the movie and it turned out to be a box office bomb. If this indeed becomes reality, it may breathe renewed life and interest into a film genre that desperately needs more female-centered projects and leads!
