The dead shall rise on AMC! According to reports, the cable network has greenlit an adaptation of the very popular Robert Kirkman series published by Image Comics. The story, coming up on its 70th issue, centers around a small band of survivors, living in a world where the dead have risen, turning them into flesh-eating zombies. The series follows the group in their efforts to live, survive and make sense of the world they are in. For the television adaptation, Frank Darabont will handle directing duties, having already completed the written adaptation. The project would seem to be in very capable hands, as Darabont has had his creative mind and able hands in several successful and critically acclaimed projects over the years, such as the screenplay for The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile. Working with the horror genre is right up his alley, as many of his projects have come from adaptations of Stephen King material. Joining Darabont will be Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert, who will be signing on as executive producers with both Darabont and the series' creator, Kirkman.
