New Superman Costume Revealed

New Superman CostumeIn perhaps the biggest news of the DC Comics re-launch, a brand new look for Superman has been revealed. When DC Comics promised to unveil 52 new number one issues, the biggest controversy was over whether this meant even Action Comics would be starting over. As suspected, it is now official that after seventy-three years, there will be a new Action Comics #1. There will also be a brand new costume for the Man of Steel.

DC Comics has officially announced four new #1 issues involving the Superman family of titles. The longest-running monthly comic book of all time will restart in September 2011 with Action Comics #1. The new Action Comics will be written by Grant Morrison with artwork by Rags Morales. According to DC Comics, Action Comics #1 will present a Superman who is defending a world that doesn’t trust their first superhero. The cover image of Action Comics #1 shows Superman in a t-shirt with the familiar “S” emblem, a red cape, jeans, and boots.

However, the Action Comics look of Superman is likely a temporary costume showing the hero first emerging to the world. The ongoing new look of Superman is more evident on the cover of the also announced Superman #1: The Man of Tomorrow, Today. Superman #1 shows a Superman costume with a modernized look. Among other changes, Superman’s new costume is missing the familiar red trunks and has hi-tech looking boots. Superman #1: The Man of Tomorrow, Today will introduce the new status quo of the Man of Steel as written by George Perez and illustrated by Jesus Merino.

Superman #1
In addition to the two newly re-numbered Superman titles, DC Comics also officially announced Supergirl #1 and Superboy #1. Supergirl #1 will be written by Michael Green and Mike Johnson with artwork by Mahmud Asrar. DC Comics describes Supergirl as having “the unpredictable behavior of a teenager, the same powers as Superman and none of his affection for the people of Earth.”

Supergirl #1
Superboy #1 will be written by Scott Lobdell with artwork by R.B. Silva and Rob Lean. In describing the new Superboy, DC Comics wrote, “They thought he was just a failed experiment, grown from a combination of Kryptonian and human DNA. But when the scope of his stunning powers was revealed, he became a deadly weapon.”

AWE! I hope Superboy isnt the new “Guy Gardner: Warrior” Substitute with the body that can be made into weapons. Don’t let Superboy lose his humanity after all the developement it has gone through. I am really starting to dislike some of these redesigns on the DC characters. It is too much, and I probably will not buy as many DC issues as I used to sorry to say.

And I am sure I am not the only one. You don’t have to change the characters that much to increase sales why don’t we start with stornger writing, and less cosmic events that threaten all of reality, or if you must try this as a comic: “DC REBOOT: Some will live, some will die, all will change, and no one will buy!” Hee Hee!

So DC has decided to “change” what has ALWAYS “worked”. Stupid.

  • Bob

This is a stupid idea. Why change something that has become an american icon into this rather normal looking guy in a t-shirt, jeans, and combat boots. The traditional superman is different, not normal, that’s why his books sell. You’re gonna blow it big time if you try to change the superman image. IT WILL NOT SELL!!

    Bob

IT WON’T BE PERMANENT! CALM THE S*** DOWN!

  • Jesse Glore

    Sometimes I thin

  • Jesse Glore

Sometimes I think change is good… but I can not imagine Superman changing his appearance all that much. The modernized version does not look too bad.

  • Craig

First they turned him into a commie now they are turning him gay, they stole rep. Weiner ideal, show his package, what are these people smoking.

  • Kognobok

OK. I need to add my 2 cents here. I’m going to give this a chance. Am I happy about this? No really at the present. I don’t like the change in Superman’s costume at all. If it’s being done for shock value to get sales then I give this a thumbs down. JUSTIFY THIS CHANGE OF APPEARANCE. Is this entire DC Comics reboot due to DC Comics losing partial (or entire) rights to Superman? That things have to be done prior to 2013 or something? If comic fans don’t like these changes, there’s going to be issues here. DC Comics is really taking a chance. This just might change the game. I hope that I like these changes. I won’t be surprised if I don’t.

Super already had other costume versions, but they always return to something near the original one. This “reboot” is just marketing stuff, as always. You’ll see.

  • Ursass

Changing superman……..umhhh could work just dont change his “S” emblem i what i say!

  • NatDuv

That made no sense. How can you calm the s*** down?

  • Nitecroller

Ok. You want to start over fine. But do not Change superman’s costume. Like it was said before. He is an American icon his costume is important.

  • Anonymous

DC and Marvel should shut down and stick to reprints. Either that or hire some Real writers and Artists, preferably post-puberty. No one’s gonna stick with this crap, and it’ll be worth nothing whatsoever later on. Kitty litter…

  • Cjulien27

They have to change superman they lost most the story-line
of superman in the lawsuit against the heirs of Simon and Schulter. so they have to make him different form the way he was portrayed in action comics #1

i’m not entirely sure i like the changes…taking away the red “underwear” will take getting used to.

  • Jdmaxwell31

Unscuffed construction boots, skin tight muscle shirt and a scarf…this joke writes itself.

that costume in action comics isnt going to last long because Action Comics is going to show us how he got his upgraded one from Superman # 1 and Justice League which i like more than the original

American and the world survived viewing Brandon Routh’s humongous bulge without injury so I am certain we can begin to prepare ourselves for Mr Cavill’s rubber encased package…..We have ten months to work towards achieving safe full frontal 3D viewing. A pre-screening warning that initial viewing through fingers is recommended for unprepared audience members.

  • Janos Biro

Why should superheroes update their “fashion”? To think that “fashion” needs to be updated is so american, and Kal-el is not even human. He should be immune to the american consumer culture.

  • Time

Combine Eradicator’s Shield/Cape combo, with President Superman’s Gloves, Boots, and Belt, minot the red trunks and your good to go.

  • Time

    minus the red trunks.

  • I-Kama-O

y’all are haters… The new costume rocks…. DC rock on…. hater ass punks…. underwear over tights???… This new costume is made of indestructible kryptonian armor… Haters… Plus he’s just as strong and all the other stuff… DC is just trying out something new and it will work… sheesh… underwear over tights… it was ok while it lasted but common…

  • Tonka7340

….WHY IN THE HELL DOES SUPERMAN NEED INVINCIBLE ARMOR? HE’S SUPERMAN! Jesus, people have no respect for fucking tradition. The tights worked for half a century and some change, I’m sure they’re just fine in 2011.

I believe the Armor helps him absords more energy from the solar energy.

  • kate

so imgian a man walking around we red underwear and calling himself superman. No one would ever take him serious.

  • life

    your lame

  • Janos Biro

If you save the world, you don’t need a good looking costume to be respected. The classic outfit has a meaning, just like a flag. It’s not meant to fit fashion.

  • life

Superman’s custom has no meaning , If Superman is not wearing it. What gives it meaning is clark Kent . Am example is when doomsday killed superman . After his death about three individual came out claiming to superman . His custome does not mean anything. It what he does that matters and stand for that matters

  • life

    And you are stupid

  • Ioannhsmironenko

why DC is fucking a perfect classic superhero instead of focusing on others not show famous like Green Arrow , Steel , Hawkman , flash , captain marvel …(by the way the superman with jeans rocks!)

  • Neramani552

DC needs writers who don’t have their heads stuffed firmly up their collective behinds. Flashpoint was a piece of crap! Action Comics #1 came out 23 years before I was born, and DC has gone and fucked it up! Smooth move, Ex Lax! His costume is fine, the new one, I can respect that; Is he from Smallville, KS? The “S Shield” being a kryptonian concept/crest is retarded, Cyborg being a half robot, why not have nanites repair and enhance his body, he could still have the same abilities, Captain Marvel/Billy Batson? wassup? Fix this crap, hire continuity police and keep these people in line. Oh and provide Aquaman with some ‘nads, wouldja? orange and green costume? he would look like a raging prostitute to people whose vision is in the green/blue portion of the spectrum, will looking like he’s maybe wearing no pants? The Crisis on Infinite Earths, Zero Hour, Final Crisis, Death of the New Gods; you guys manage to SCREW up everyone of these events. And Green lantern remains the same….Are you people high? Get it together!

  • Y2K

NO it doesn`t! There is a special suit for absorbing sunlight, as shown in the return of superman.

  • Y2K

sure, they need to reprint the old comics, for kids who dont have em today, but we need new comics they also need to advertise when the comics are coming out

  • http://www.facebook.com/kenneth.crosby3 Kenneth Crosby

I THINK SOME CHANGE IS GOOD BUT, HOW DO YOU THINK HE GOT TO BE ICONIC IN THE FIRST PLACE ? CHANGES TO THE ORIGINAL STORY LINE IS O.K. BUT AGAIN WHY FIX WHAT AINT BROKEN ? I HOPE THIS DOES’NT BLOW UP IN THEIR FACES .
