Seeing Robin In The Dark Knight Rises

Robin in The Dark Knight Rises

It looks like superheroes other than Batman just keeping popping up in The Dark Knight Rises. First, it was Superman with the Superman logo showing up in the first Dark Knight Rises poster and the face of Superman appearing next to Bane in another image. Now, it’s Robin the Boy Wonder who has been spotted.

Rumors have long circulated that the information that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is playing Gotham City police officer John Blake is just a cover for his true role as Robin the Boy Wonder. Speculation reached a fever pitch when the Robin logo was spotted in a sign in a football game crowd shot shown in the second Dark Knight Rises trailer. In addition to the Robin logo, the name “Ward” appeared on the back of the jersey of one of the football players in the trailer, which obviously had to be a call out to Burt Ward, who played Robin in the popular sixties Batman TV series. These were signs surely planted by Nolan to signal to fans that Robin cometh.

However, naysayers were quick to point out that the Robin logo sign had been made by one of the extras that filled the stadium, and the name “Ward” on the football player jersey actually stood for Hines Ward, who was the Pittsburgh Steelers player cast in that role.

Now, an eagle-eyed Reddit poster going by the handle of Rowsdower_Rowsdower has spotted another possible Robin reference in the second Dark Knight Rises trailer. At the masquerade ball where Bruce Wayne backs away from Selina Kyle, someone wearing a Robin-type mask can be seen in the background. This masked individual happens to sport long sideburns, which look a lot like the long sideburns sported by Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Could this be Nolan having more fun with fans by dropping in a sneaky reference to Robin?

Completely false. We can see the mask because if we see the complete scene in the trailer we realize that bruce is in a mask’s party. Everyone are with masks.

Raibastidas has a point about the costume ball or whatever it was; you can even see the band holding up the mask on the back of that woman’s head.

  • Ghren

Dude “Ward”, is hines- ward who plays for the steelers.

  • ninformant

it’s a masquerade party for wayne’s sake. the robin “R” is may be an homage to the character, but it’s about all you’ll get in nolans universe. he’s already stated that he wouldn’t feature robin in his films, and that you can take to the bank. when nolan speaks, he’s serious. when he doesn’t speak, then please, speculate all you want.

  • Alex Kies

Give the Robin talk a rest already. He’s not in the movie (thank goodness), and if he was I’m sure Nolan would be more open to the conspiracy theories presented on sites like this.

  • Guest

Yeah, it’s mentioned that it’s a masquerade party above, but what’s interesting is this particular guest looks similar to Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and he is wearing a Robin-type mask. If it is Joseph Gordon-Levitt, it could be subtle reference that he’s playing a character who will take on a Robin-like role for Batman, even if he doesn’t appear in Robin costume in the movie.

in the prologue towards then end when you see higlhights of the movie later on and bane is seen walking out an area which has pillars. u can see hes walking next to someone, i want to know who it is and i hope it’s ra’s al ghul.

Seems to me this article is just wishful thinking

Dude I’m the one who mentioned this weeks ago on the superherohype boardss….. funny only just NOW people are seeing this shit!!!!And i posted like ten comments on the trailer on youtube saying this!!!!!!

    i lold

At both the picture and your comment on how “Ward” was an OBVIOUS call out to Burt Ward.

  • Anne Zhang

Ok, this Robin speculation is starting to sound desperate. Really, Ward on a jersey? An extra’s sign? A blurry picture of a mask at a masquerade? This is just sad now.

  • Amvlobo

    are you fucking retarded? xD

  • 4justincase

Hmm so it just do happens that the police officer played by Joseph was invited to Bruce’s party. How improbable would that be I wonder, oh and yeah, he would also be the only human in the movie with long sideburns. Yeah that must be it :P

  • Antoneleray

thought he was the holiday killer?

  • Guest

Oh my goodness! It’s a guy with a slight sideburn thing over the ear! So it must be Joseph Gordon-Levitt, right? Also, while Robin does wear a slightly similar mask, ask yourself this: Is that kind of mask really that uncommon? It’s just a plain old mask. Next thing you know, people are going to think “Hey, that guy’s wearing a black mask. Wait… Black… Mask… HE MUST BE BLACK MASK.” Nolan already said he wouldn’t include Robin, even if this is Gordon-Levitt he has no connection to Robin or any other characters.

  • J1mmy37

Ward as in Hines Ward, The football player from the Steelers? Simple coincidence.

As much as I would like Robin in movie. That scene has Bruce Wayne talking to Selina Kyle at a masquerade party…So that could be just another masked guest.
