Avengers Movie: Eight Alien Mystery Army Theories

Everyone has a theory on exactly who makes up Loki’s army. Could it be aliens? Or are they beings from the nine realms? Or maybe they are just an undiscovered race from our own planet? Comicbook.com has compiled a list of the often heard Loki’s army theories along with arguments both pro and con for each theory.

Avengers movie skrullsSkrulls – On the pro side, the mystery army does appear to be green, and the Skrulls are the most famous alien race to fight the Avengers in the comic books. Also, the facial outline matches up well with the Skrulls. On the con side, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has already gone on record as saying they are not Skrulls.

Avengers movie Frost GiantsFrost Giants – On the pro side, the faces on the mystery army do bear a striking resemblance to Frost Giants. It would also make sense from the perspective that the Frost Giants were part of the Thor movie. On the con side, the army appears more green in color than Frost Giant blue.

Avengers movie BadoonsBadoons – On the pro side, the Badoons are a reptilian alien race with a green skin color exactly like the mystery alien race shown in The Avengers. On the con side, the Badoons usually go shirtless rather than decked out in hi-tech armor like shown in The Avengers. Also, the features of the mystery army seem to be more insect-like than reptilian.
Avengers movie AnnihilusAnnihilus And His Minions – On the pro side, the mystery army appears to have somewhat of an insect-like appearance, and Annihilus is an Insectoid. There were also rumors last year that Loki would invade Earth through the negative zone. On the con side, Annihilus is more of a Fantastic Four villain, and FOX could have the movie rights to him.

Avengers movie Knights of WundagoreKnights Of Wundagore – On the pro side, the contraption that Loki is riding looks almost exactly like an atomic steed, which is used by the Knights of Wundagore. On the con side, now that we have a better view of the Loki’s actual army, they look nothing like the Knights Of Wundagore.
Avengers movie Sons of MuspellSons Of Muspell – On the pro side, several of the scenes from The Avengers trailer do match up pretty well with scenes from an old Thor comic featuring an invasion by the Sons of Muspell. On the con side, the mystery alien army doesn’t look very much like the way the Sons of Muspell have appeared in the comic books.
Avengers AtlanteansAtlanteans – On the pro side, previous movies like Iron Man 2 have dropped hints about Atlantis, and it would be a great way to introduce the Sub-Mariner into the Marvel film universe. On the con side, the mystery army appears more green in color than Atlantean blue.
Avengers movie Alpha CentauriansAlpha Centaurians – On the pro side, the mystery army looks a lot like the Alpha Centaurians from the points on the head to the three toes. Since the Alpha Centaurians are notorious for stealing water, it could also be another way to bring the Sub-Mariner into the picture. On the con side, other features of the mystery army don’t match up quite as well, and they are one of the more obscure Marvel Comics alien races.

So what is your guess as to who the mystery alien (or not alien) army is? Our bets lean toward the Badoons, Alpha Centaurians, and Annihilus and his minions based on appearance. But we think the Atlanteans would make for a great story, and they would be a good fit for Leviathan if that rumor is true (and it does look like the army could be jumping from the tale of some type of sea creature). Are there any other possibilities that we should have included on the list? Weigh in with your theories in the comments below.

My bet is that it’s the Army of Thanos. His first deal on Earth was to get the Cosmic Cube and….well, hey–that fits right in, doesn’t it?

    NEBULA…

Among the advanced alien technology at her disposal was once the Sanctuary II, a starship of 10,000 crewmen of various species and armed with hundreds of energy weapons as well as a hanger deck holding hundreds of fighter craft.

More: Nebula-A brutal space pirate and mercenary, Nebula seized control of Sanctuary II, a massive spaceship previously under the command of Thanos. Thanos was believed to be dead at this point, and Nebula claimed that he had been her grandfather. Nebula’s band of mercenaries and pirates consisted of Skunge, Kehl, Gunthar, and Levan. Nebula asked the second Captain Marvel to join her mercenary band and aid them in conquering the Skrull Empire. However, Firelord learned that Nebula had massacred the Xandarians. Nebula used her space fleet to attack the Skrull space armada and the Avengers.

The point on the right side of the head appears to actually be something attached to his back, not coming off of the head, and the left side is symmetrical with a part on the right side of the helmet that sort of wraps around. So no real points sticking off their head.

They do have three toes and three fingers and a thumb though. And a greyish-blue hue.

I don’t know what they are. Part of me is more intrigued by the idea that they aren’t Skrulls. Skrulls seemed a bit obvious. Whatever they are, the HULK looks great!

    alpha centauri
i know it for a fact. also leviathan is in the movie.

It will be the Skrulls but they are going to be named the REDACTED or ALPHA CENTAURIANS but they will act just like the Skrulls ie Shapechanging

The Badoon or the Annihilation Wave would lend extra credence to the existence of a Guardians of the Galaxy movie, so (because I’m hopeful) I’ll go with them.

The aliens are called The Redacted and are a new version of The Skrulls. Fox still own Skrulls, so Marvel have changed them enough to not get sued. They’re multicoloured and are shapeshifters.

-Thanos is in the movie. There were rumors some months ago that Loki would do business with Thanos and they’re true. Thanos is tricked by Loki in the movie. Basically, Loki has been collecting Infinity Gems and the Infinity Gauntlet, but tricks Thanos in to thinking that the Infinity Gauntlet is the most powerful. In return, Thanos gives him The Redacted.

-The Leviathan is an alien serpent given to Loki by Thanos as a part of the deal.

I think its chitauri, basically another name for Skrulls in the comics.. either that or they’re frost giants i mean come on they look exactly the same as the frost giants in thor, especially since loki discovered that he was a frost giant himself, of course he’d build an army of his own kind to take revenge on Thor. Marvel can’t throw in too many different aliens and stuff because people, other than die hard comic fans, will get confused. All average people know is what they saw in the Captain America, Hulk, Ironman, and Thor movies

  • Tjsmith254

to everyone saying its an alien race call “the redacted”. you are all morons. redacted is not the name of the aliens. redacted is a word commonly used to remove sensitive information from publication. in this case, it has been used in place of the actual name of the alien race as to not spoil it…. on another note it has been known for a while now that the alien race are NOT the skrulls or kree, but another well known alien race in the marvel universe. my guess is its the chitauri, but if it is, then they look nothing like their comic counterparts. otherwise its the alpha centauri. but if thats the case, then the comment about “being another well known alien race” doesnt make sense because the as stated in the main article, the alpha centauri are pretty obscure.

Pretty detailed pictures of the aliens in Lego form.

Their will be multiple of the above, not just one villain

There has to be a link to iron-man 3 villain

Iron man may be battling or looking for mandarin rings and runs into fing fan foom

Different armies from midgard are summoned by loki. Two toed alien and atomic steed photos are probably different races. They are coming from the air so sub mariner is doubtful.

I think the teasers are edited to trick you
