While 2012 will likely go down as the greatest year ever for comic book movies, it won't be because of Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. The movie is taking a beating from the critics, gaining labels such as the worst movie in years. In fact, the reviews are so bad that Death and Taxes even compiled a list of the top 5 hilariously bad reviews. As bad as the reviews are, the box office take has got to hurt worse for Columbia Pictures. Many early predictions thought that Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance would easily cruise to a President's Day weekend box office win, because the film wasn't facing much competition in other new releases. However, it turns out that Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is getting beat by holdovers from last weekend. Despite a 54% drop from the previous week, The Vow racked up $7.4 million at the box office on Friday, which topped Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance's $7 million take. The verdict is still out on President's Day four day holiday weekend as a whole, but it looks like Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance might drop all the way to third place. Deadline puts Safe House at the top with $27.5 million, followed by The Vow with $27 million, and Ghost Rider coming in third at $26.5 million. Of course with numbers that close, things could still change after the final tallies are calculated, but even if Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance manages to pull off a miracle finish, its numbers still aren't looking good against the original. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance's $7 million opening day was less than half what the original Ghost Rider took in on opening day. For the entire weekend, the estimates for the sequel are around $19 million behind the original.
